Bathroom Exhaust Fan Cleaning in NJ

USA Air Management cleans bathroom exhaust fans in New Jersey homes and has been in business since 1996. We remove the dust on the grille, fan blades and housing so the fan can pull shower moisture out again, and we check where the fan discharges. Call to get your quote: (908) 731-7090.

Why the bathroom fan matters

A shower puts a lot of water vapor into a small room. The EPA’s guide to mold and moisture says “the key to mold control is moisture control,” recommends running the bathroom fan or opening the window when showering, and advises venting moisture-producing appliances to the outside where possible. It also suggests keeping indoor humidity below 60 percent, ideally between 30 and 50 percent.

A bathroom fan only does that job if air can get through it. Over time, dust and lint coat the grille and the fan blades, and the fan moves less air even though it still sounds like it’s running. Fans are rated by airflow, in cubic feet per minute (cfm), and by noise, in sones. ENERGY STAR uses both ratings when it certifies ventilation fans. A fan caked with dust can’t deliver the airflow it was rated for.

Signs your bathroom fan needs cleaning

  • A visible layer of gray dust on the grille
  • The mirror stays fogged long after a shower
  • Mildew keeps coming back on the ceiling, grout or caulk
  • The fan is louder than it used to be, or rattles
  • A tissue held to the grille barely moves while the fan runs
  • Paint peeling on the bathroom ceiling

What our bathroom fan cleaning covers

  1. Grille removal and cleaning. The cover comes off and is cleaned separately.
  2. Fan and housing. We vacuum dust from the fan blades or blower wheel, the motor area and the housing.
  3. Discharge check. We look at where the fan exhausts. Moisture should go outdoors, not into the attic, where it can dampen insulation and framing. If the duct is disconnected or ends in the attic, we’ll tell you.
  4. Function check. We run the fan to confirm it starts and that the backdraft flap moves.

If your bathroom fan duct runs a long way through the attic to a roof or wall cap, we can check the outside cap for lint and nests at the same visit, the way we do with dryer vents.

Bathroom exhaust fan cleaning FAQs

Who cleans bathroom exhaust fans near me in NJ?

USA Air Management does. We clean bathroom exhaust fans, grilles and housings in homes across New Jersey from our Lincroft office in Monmouth County, and we’ve been in business since 1996. We’re open Monday to Friday 9 to 6 and Saturday 9 to 3. Call to get your quote: (877) 811-5131 (primary) or (908) 731-7090.

How much does bathroom fan cleaning cost?

Call to get your quote: (908) 731-7090.

Why does my bathroom mirror stay fogged with the fan on?

Usually because the fan isn’t moving enough air. Dust on the grille and fan blades cuts airflow, and a crushed or disconnected duct can stop air from getting out. Cleaning the fan and checking the duct often helps. If the fan is undersized for the room, we’ll tell you.

Where should a bathroom fan vent to?

Outdoors. The EPA advises venting moisture-producing appliances to the outside where possible. A bathroom fan that blows into the attic can leave moisture on insulation and framing. During cleaning we check where the fan discharges and tell you if the duct is disconnected or ends in the attic.

How often should a bathroom exhaust fan be cleaned?

Look at the grille every few months. If you see a gray layer of dust, it’s time to clean it. A full cleaning of the fan and housing is worth doing when the fan seems weak or noisy, mildew keeps returning, or it’s been years since anyone looked inside.

Can a dirty bathroom fan cause mold?

It can contribute. The EPA says the key to mold control is moisture control, and recommends running the bathroom fan when showering. A fan clogged with dust removes less moisture, so the room stays damp longer. Cleaning the fan helps, but any leaks or other moisture sources also need to be fixed.

Can you clean bathroom fans during an air duct cleaning?

Yes, that’s a common combination. Tell the office when you book so we can add the bathroom fans to the air duct cleaning and plan enough time for the visit. Doing both at once means one appointment, and we can check the bathroom fan ducts while we’re in the attic.
